Concept art for “The King” in our newest game, The King’s Bird, launching on Kickstarter this fall! It’s a game inspired by Journey and Dustforce, and it has bird parkour.
That’s right, bird parkour.
The King is a morally ambiguous character, and if you want to find out more about him (and BIRD PARKOUR), sign up on our email list!

We’ll be at the Denver Comic Con this weekend, starting Friday! Come say hi to us!!!

Location: 700’s Hall, “Hall of Games”.

Follow us on Twitter for updates on all our Comic Con adventures!

  • Classic SciFi focus (think original Star Trek not Halo). “The final frontier” not “contemporary war with lasers”.

  • It will be multiplayer, similar to a “Minecraft map”, but RIDICULOUSLY large. The scale seems to be at least an entire galaxy (so probably billions or even trillions of planets and far more stars). Most importantly: planets are 1:1 with their real size. So exploring a planet could entail exploring all of Earth or all of Mercury.

  • Gameplay is a big focus, they aren’t trying to make a tech demo.

  • Not a passive universe: there are dangerous creatures on planets and there are both friendly and enemy ships out in space.

  • You can choose your side. You get a reward for helping defend some freighters or for helping attack the freighters.

  • Monetary system, you can upgrade your ship/suit/weapon.

  • NO QUESTS OR LEVELS. “We abhor the idea of [go do a task for 5 gold]. We don’t like levels, scripted sequences, quests.”

  • Information sharing is a key gameplay element (prime example is the “Discovered by X” messages when you enter a planet’s atmosphere). Players discover not just the overall planet, but also lakes, space stations, resources, trade routes. You can choose to share what you find with everyone else or not. Initially EVERYTHING on your map will be unknown and it will become populated with information as people play (though he did seem to imply that the raw locations of stars and planets would be known by default).

  • There will be persistence, but only for significant events. Something small like shooting a bird will only be stored locally, but if you take out a space station or fleet or strip a planet of its resources then those things will be seen by all players.

  • Small team, they have an internal release date, but it’s not close enough that they feel comfortable sharing it at this time.

The Gematsu leak has been the gospel truth for every prediction to date.
Here are the confirmed predictions:
Mega Man
Villager
Wii Fit Trainer
Little Mac
Pokemon from X and Y
Mii
Palutena
Pac-Man
And here are the unconfirmed characters:
Shulk (Xenoblades)

Chrom (Fire Emblem)

Chorus Men (Rhythm Heaven)

They have been pretty spot on, Shulk and Chrom stand a really good chance but the chorus men seem to be a really odd pick

Sakurai loves odd picks! The franchise also makes sense, considering Rhythm Heaven had 3 games which were huge in Japan. And that’s the audience Sakurai listens to!

This is not okay, Sakurai.

A marriage of Mario Paint and Mario ROM hacks.

Actually looks really fun!
